Ready. Set. Write! Update

Oh my! It's Monday again and time for another update for Ready.Set.Write! This is a super summer writing intensive sponsored by AlisonKatyErinElodie and Jamiewhich helps us writers not to fall into a complete summer laziness. Plus, it's a ton of fun.

Did I meet last week's goals?

- finish WIP outline - Sort of.  I was working on it and realized that with the basic frame already set, I want to wing the rest of the details. So we'll call the basic skeleton quits for now.

- rework several chapters - reworked the first and am rewriting from there, since the story is going to be a little different than first planned.

- finish that garden furniture - it's painted. And I started sewing the cloth part, but my sewing machine broke!!! Until I get the spare part, it's done with that goal. So I painted fence posts and did weeding instead. Grrr.

Goals for this next week. . .

If beta notes come back, the completion of changes and sending that MS out the door is this week's goal. If not. . .

- write second chapter, maybe a third on my WiP.

A favorite line from my story or a phrase/word which sums up what I wrote. . .

In a flawless wave of motion, I stuffed the burger into the bag, glided by the heat lamps for a lovely French fry toss and snatched up the waiting cola inclusive straw and lid. If packing an order could be scored, this one earned a perfect ten.

The biggest challenge I faced. . .

Getting my mind into tweeny Princess mode and out of scifi clones. Disney is my netflix friend right now. (And Daredevil, but that isn't very princessy....or?)

Something I love about my MS. . .

It's tweeny, carefree and sweet fairy taley, while hitting a real historical twist that's been long forgotten by most. So there is some fun research involved - yippee!

What about you? How's your summer writing moving along?

    1. I had the machine to repair not too long ago, but I think it's just getting old :(

  5. I love that snippet you shared, it's just so perfect to imagine! And it sounds like you made great progress on your goals even with the sewing machine deciding it didn't want to participate in them. Yes, your MS sounds definitely very intriguing! Good luck with this week!

...Annnnnd now I can't shift the mental image of Daredevil in a pretty princessy Disney dress.

  6. What rotten timing for your sewing machine to break! I hope you can get it fixed soon so your garden furniture project doesn't have to wait too long. Despite that setback, it sounds like you made some great progress with your WIP though! Hope this week is productive too!

  8. I always try to outline in-depth and end up leaving holes in it and filling in the details as I go along! Your WIP sounds really fun, and that excerpt is great! :)

    1. I've done both, depending on the MS but have recently been plotting more than anything. But this one just doesn't want to be plotted out. So we'll go with the flow.

  9. I definitely think skeleton outlines are best--for me, at least, I need to have fun surprises along the way to keep me excited. Sounds like you did pretty good on your goals, despite setbacks, and I hope you rock out your goals this week! :)

  13. FAST FOOD PRINCESS is back on the block!!!!!!! Yay. Lol! I so love this concept, so needless to say, I'm excited to see you working on it again. ^_^

I have an old sewing machine that will randomly jump and miss spots and screw up my lines. I have a newer one now, but sometimes I miss the adventure. It's still in my closet in case I ever get too nostalgic. :P

  14. Progress whoohoo. Sorry your garden furniture is put down until you get your machine fixed. Good luck this week and I'm sure the changes will be great. Also Daredevil was awesome sauce.

  15. Haha the sewing machine ALWAYS breaks just when you get to the end of a project, doesn't it? I cannot even tell you how many times my sewing machine has made me cry. We have a seriously dysfunctional relationship :) Good luck with your goals this week!!!!

  17. Your excerpt reminded me of at work sometimes. I've got the motions down of counting the money, stuffing the envelope, and tearing off the receipt and putting it into the envelope and then sending it out the driver through down to a science. =) Good luck this week!

  19. Sounds like you were pretty productive. Way to go! I sometimes set goals like that, then drown in despair over the fact that I don't reach a single one. Here's to productive times and conquering life!
