Celebrate The Small Things

This weekly blog hop is sponsored by the amazing Lexa Cain,  and co-hosted by L.G. Keltner from Writing Off the Edge and myself.

What exactly are we celebrating?

Every week, wonderful things happen, tiny things, which make us smile. But as time grabs us up, we forget all about these moments as if they never existed at all. This is the chance for us to reflect back on those and remember that there are tons of things worth celebrating.

This week, I'm celebrating. . .

1) Two lucky deer accidents! Living out here, it was clear that the time would come when we'd hit a deer. First, my husband hit one and luckily (I going to use this word a lot) only smacked off the driver's mirror. I say 'lucky' because with the car he drives, hitting it in the front would have meant a slide up the windshield and a not so nice outcome. So, we can handle one mirror. (The deer took off. . .probably with a very sore backside :( ). Second, my son decided to ride a motorcycle at night although we told him how stupid it was —they never listen—and sure enough, a deer popped out in front of him. He swerved and skid across the road. Luckily, we were following him and he was only going 40-45 mph on a much faster stretch. He came out of it with only scratches, bruises and a couple days of pain. So lucky him too.

2) Chainsawing! With my two men not able to do hard labor and work to be done, I hit the world of chainsawing this week to clean up some thick limbs out of the barn. The thing gets heavy after 20 or so mins, but I just take a break, drink a tea, do some writing, and then, go back and carry on. So add that to new experiences!

3) A long weekend for the kids! It's teacher conference time, so the kids only had a 1/2 day Thursday and get off today (hence, I'm late with this post). We have all sorts of chores, activities and things to do. . .can they just have another 2 or 3 days off???

What about you? What put a smile on your face this last week? Cross a stream? Step into a beautiful room? Smell a delicious odor? What are you celebrating this last week?

  1. Wow - your husband and son were very lucky indeed. Hitting a deer can be serious stuff. Well done to you for doing the chainsawing. I'd find that a challenge to do and would definitely be taking many, many breaks :-)

  2. Chainsaw, huh? That's brave. I'd be afraid of hurting myself. After seeing what my lawnmower did to a unlucky froggy that crossed my path at the wrong moment, I'm kind of nervous operating that thing.

  3. Your son was lucky!! Motorcycles scare me. I'm a big chicken.

I hit a deer when I was a teen. They seem to come out of nowhere!

  4. Lucky! I love deer but why do they have to jump in front of people like that?! I always crawl through my sister's neighborhood because of that.

    Chainsawing! Way to multitask.

  5. Considering most deer accidents turn out much worse, that was lucky. Of course around here, really lucky would've meant venison for someone.

  6. That is lucky with the deer. A friend of mine once had a deer hit her car. Ran right into the side as she was driving down the road.

  7. I get so nervous whenever I see those deer jumping signs on the highway. I wonder if insurance covers that...hmmm.

  8. Tonja,

So happy to hear that y'all deer encounters weren't any worse than they were. That's so scary! It pays to go very slow in areas where deer are heavily populated.

WOW, you tackled some chainsawing! I have used the weed eater a few times and that wears me completely out. I'm not much for outdoor work. It gets harder the older you get, too.

Last week was rough here. I didn't have too much to smile about but I was grinning by mid-week when I my new computer arrived which made me giddy. :) Have a good week ahead!
