Off we go to another week of Celebrating Those Small Things

This is a weekly blog hop sponsored by the amazing Lexa Cain, and co-hosted by L.G. Keltner from Writing Off the Edge and myself. Every week, wonderful things happen, tiny things, which make us smile. But as time grabs us up, we forget all about those moments. This is the chance for us to reflect back on those and remember that there are tons of things worth celebrating.

This week, I'm celebrating. . .

1) My husband's birthday! He's not an excited birthday man (hates getting older), but he'll always eat the cake and accept the presents with a smile. We only had a little celebration this week and are planning on doing something fun this coming Monday (Labor Day.)

2) Plums! And I'm talking lots o' lots o' plums. Our 3 wild plum trees are completely weighed down this year. So hubs decided to use them for wine. Well, we had enough juice for that a good 5. . .10 gallons ago. My husband is one who refuses to let anything he touches go to waste, so it's been a plum juice cooking kitchen all week long (even cooking dinner has become a battle since he won't let me near the stove.) I'm afraid we still have a couple gallons left to go. Anyone want some? It is delicious!

3) I got another short story out the door! I have not been a productive writer for some time now, although it isn't for a lack of trying. (Life simply isn't calming down enough for me to concentrate.) Getting this one completed and out by the deadline was a forced accomplishment and hopefully, the beginning of a wave of writing swing.

What about you? What put a smile on your face this last week? Feel a cool breeze? Enjoy a glass of wine? Try something new? What are you celebrating?

  2. Happy Birthday to your husband! Plum wine sounds absolutely delicious. Congrats on getting a story done and sent. I imagine that once the harvesting season is over you'll have a lot more time to write. Hang in there!

  3. My husband's the same way about his birthday.

We actually had a bit of a cool breeze the other day, but I think most of that was all the wind and rain, maybe from Hermine or maybe just regular old stormy weather.

I would totally take some plum wine!! I like fruity wines. Tell him they're not going to waste, nature will eat them. :P Happy Birthday to him! He's not getting older, he's getting wiser. ^_^

  13. Happy birthday to your husband, and congratulations on finishing that story! Life doesn't always cooperate by giving us enough writing time, and it's such a great feeling when we complete a project. Have a great weekend!

  14. Tonja, Happy Birthday to the hubs! At least he's not senile yet. I mean he's accepting presents and still enjoys presents. Plus, getting a year older is better than the alternative, right? ;) I'll pass on the wine. I've never been a drinker not even wine. Just didn't develop a taste for it, but I'll take the fresh plums or maybe some home-made plum jam, though. :D lol My in-laws has several apple trees and I loved eating them right out of the hand. My belated MIL would canned the apples and make apple pies. She was the best apple pie maker ever. It was like being in heaven! She was the one who actually taught me how to make good biscuits from scratch and every time we have my biscuits I remind DH that it was his mother who taught me, too. Enjoy the fruit of your labor and best wishes to your husband for another good year. Thanks for stopping by. If you were looking for my CTST post, it's here. I didn't include the CTST in my title this time, but I did as a tag. I apologize for that! Have a good weekend, my friend!

  18. Sounds like you had a lovely week. I love plums - bought some only last week. When I was a child we had a Victoria plum tree in the garden and Mum would bottle the surplus in kilner jars. The trees attracted a lot of wasps though!
