IWSG - Everything's growing!

It's IWSG time!

Every first Wednesday of the month, this group of writers come together to offer support, advice, encouragement or simply to let out frustrations and woes. Writing is a tough journey, and we don't have to go it alone.

Thanks goes to the brain behind this group, Alex J. Cavanaugh! If you want to join in or find out more (because there is so much more to this group) then head on over here.

Special thanks goes to this month's co-hosts:  Lee Lowery, Juneta Key, Yvonne Ventresca, and T. Powell Coltrin!

Spring is here! While everything is turning green and flowers are blooming and jackets have hit the storage bin for the next months and days are getting longer and...

Work on the farm is exploding!!!  As a writer, a part of me mourns the passing of winter.  Those long hours of writing poof into dust as real-life work sets in. And the worst of it?  While the cows are calving and barn cats nurse their new kittens and my old hen sits on her nest hoping her eggs will hatch (she does this every year and every year gives up after about two weeks...silly hen), my plot bunnies decide to multiply too! Spring sets off my muse, and I think part of it is my muse's snarky humor to remind me that my writing time has been cut down drastically during the next months.

But I trick him!

I jot down the better ideas into a folder...which by the way, is a stuffed cave with so many ideas they'll never all see the light of day and are doomed to collect cobwebs and dust. One or two 'lucky' bunnies will get to hop around in my head the next months (yes, brush hogging up and down the field and up and down the field leaves LOTS of time for hopping), and maybe...just maybe, they'll turn into a real, full fledged, fuzzy story and gain my full attention come winter again.

Do you have seasons of writing too? When do your plot bunnies multiply?

Need a barn kitty?????? (I have too many!!!!!)

Plot kittens? Hmmmm.....

  1. Hmm, not sure how the tortoises would enjoy a kitten running around..... :)

  2. I'd love a barn kitty but two cats is enough.
Despite the events set this summer, with only one release scheduled for the fall, I'll probably get some writing in this summer.

  3. Plot kittens sound so adorable! Enjoy your spring and the boom of life. Autumn and winter are my big writing months. Hopefully I'll find some time this summer to get in writing time, but always collecting ideas. :)

  4. I usually write more in the fall, but I'd like to make writing more of a daily part of life like I've done with exercise. Even if I don't fell like it, I almost always do something physical. If not, I don't sleep. So I guess I need a consequence if I fail to write. Hmmm...maybe no chocolate? No, that would be too cruel.

  5. I'd never thought of my multiple plot options as "bunnies," but I love that metaphor. Of course, you could also call them plot barn kitties. No. That isn't as punchy! Carry on.

  6. Hens are cute. ^_^ Brush hogging is totally great for brainstorming! You can work through everything when you're up there without interruption. :D

I tend to write more in the spring and summer for some reason. I can't remember the last time I wrote a lot in the fall, outside of editing and NaNoWriMo.

  7. It’s so tough when writing time gets trimmed. Right now I am trying to find my grove again post sinus surgery. I am hoping summer and fall will allow more time this year :)

  8. Barn cats and kittens - we need pictures!

I've got a plot bunny that won't leave me along. I've told it nicely that it has to wait its turn, but we'll see if it cooperates.

  9. Sounds like you have a busy summer. I just have yard work and a tiny garden to worry about. I'd like to think I could write more in winter, but it's not been the case. Maybe next year.

  10. I do the same as you. I write them down and go back and use them later. There is so much more work in the spring and summer, especially on a farm!

  11. Plot bunnies are a pain like that. They know just when we are too busy to start breeding. LOL

  12. Keeping an idea folder is a great idea. I love the irony of your muse. :)

  13. Yes, I go from a reading bing (winter to spring) to a writing binge (spring through most of summer, then a slow, then mid-fall madness.
    I love keeping idea folders.
    Happy spring!

  14. I have a notebook with plot bunnies and am anxious to get started on some of them. Since I'm retired from my job, I work about the same all year long. I'm really slow, but like the turtle, I get there. Love kitties and have two. Good luck with your "bunnies."

  15. I try to keep writing throughout the year. But boy! Is it difficult. But I also keep an idea folder. Ok...several idea folders. Ideas certainly multiply like bunnies, but come to fruition? Maybe some of them. All the luck with the new season. And keep those idea bunnies alive!
