Celebrate the Small Things!

This weekly blog hop is sponsored by the amazing Lexa Cain, and co-hosted by L.G. Keltner from Writing Off the Edge and myself.

What exactly are we celebrating?

Every week, wonderful things happen, tiny things, which make us smile. But as time grabs us up, we forget all about these moments as if they never existed at all. This is the chance for us to reflect back on those and remember that there are tons of things worth celebrating.

This week, I'm celebrating. . .

1) I don't know if this is something really to celebrate...I guess I'll think of it as a victory after several rounds of battle. We caught 4 possum in 10 days, all of which were attempting to get into our chicken coop. This amazes me because we've had chickens for 3 years and haven't had any trouble. And all of a sudden 4? I'm beginning to believe it's a secret possum conspiracy to take over our farm...or maybe more?

2) College tour! Our oldest daughter starts college this Fall and has known where she's wanted to go all along. Yesterday, I joined her for a tour and wow. College campuses are so much cooler than when I was studying. The pool--wow wow. Hot tubs...lazy rivers... And then the climbing walls! Oh and there's an entire tower for repelling. Let's not forget at least 2 Starbucks on campus (that will hurt the bank account)....free laundry (I guess that means the end of quarter glory--and more change for Starbucks coffee?)...free shuttle service (because now a 10-15 minute walk across the grounds is too much?) There's also a free editing/proofreading office for all papers--not sure what I think of that part, though. I know proof reading is a drag but isn't that kind of what education is about? And the recreation center with organized camping tours and everything. Slowly I'm wondering if maybe it's time to go back and get another degree.

3) Starbucks coffee! Lol! This is a no-brainer. If there were two on campus, you know I used the rare chance I have to get one.

So, that kind of wraps up this week. Otherwise, it was pretty quiet, which is also something to celebrate.

What about you? What put a smile on your face this last week? Chase a cat? Giggle in the bathtub? Discover a meaning of life? What are you celebrating?

  1. Bet that college tour was a real eye opener. You're so right. It was different when people like of certain age like me went. Have a great weekend.

  2. I work at a university and can't believe how much campuses have changed since I was in school. I feel so old saying that! But it really is true LOL. I bet your daughter is super excited about getting ready for college. Sounds like you had a fun visit.
    Have a great weekend!

    1. Lol! That she's excited is an understatement. Freedom....she's convinced ;)

  3. Dang, we missed out! Free laundry?! I need to become a student for that alone. My husband is a professor and we can use the pool (lazy river, whirlpool, diving boards, check, check, and check). I think the free proofreading is for the professors more than the students.

  4. That's a lot of opossum.
Holy crap! I want to go to that college.

    1. The first opossum was cute. But now, not so much.

  5. The college I went to got a second Starbucks my senior year, but I'm envious of the free laundry. I went through so many quarters in four years it was ridiculous.

Good luck with the possum conspiracy, and have a great weekend!

    1. And I'd been telling my daughter that quarters were like gold. Guess I was wrong.

  6. Exciting times. I remember looking round universities with number one son (number two didn't bother!) and wishing I was 18 again. Can't agree with your enthusiasm for Starbucks, though. They're taking over the world and killing off independents.

  7. What kind of campus is that?!! Shuttles? Really? Now, I did have a Starbucks, Subway, and Pizza Hut, but hot tubs and lazy rivers. That's super plush.

Congratulations on the possum catching! We catch some at work sometimes. They get into the trash.

    1. It's nothing special-just Missouri State. But they've grown quite a bit the last years. I think they had to start a shuttle or deal with student parking problems.
      Pesky critters!

  8. I love Starbucks, I work quite close to one now, having to exercise a lot of restraint not to go every day!
Wow, that certainly sounds better than my university! Where do I sign up?
    Have a great weekend!

    1. My daughter thinks she'll visit them often, but her pocket book is going to have a different opinion ;) Enjoy too!

  9. Aren't college campuses mind blowing? I told the lady on our tour that I'd like to see the discount package...you know the one where kids still walk across campus and don't have their own dish washer but my bill is a few thousand cheaper each semester. Wow is right.

Maybe you have a new family of possums living nearby?

    1. Our tour guide did make a slip and admitted that tuition went up a bit to pay for the pool and recreation center. I had to smirk and wondered how many parents noticed that.
I wondered that too, but they are all so big and look nothing alike...well, that's assuming possums share traits with other family members. Science experiment!

    1. We had a lovely coffee shop in town, but the machine broke and now, they're gone :( So I treasure a Latte and Co when the chance arises.

  11. I'm glad you got those pesky opossums and that the chickens will be safe. (Unless the whole secret opossum society is after them!) How great that your daughter gets to go to the school she wants. It does indeed sound very different from my college days. Have a great weekend!

  12. Wow the college sounds awesome, can understand why your daughter wants to go! Hope the possums are staying away.

  13. Tonja, congrats on catching those pesty opossum! We caught three mice and that's reason to celebrate because I hate it when they get in the house, which they do nearly every winter. I'm not ruling out the possibility of more winding up caught before the weather breaks. That's fabulous your daughter knows which school she wishes to attend. When I went to school it was city transportation and a lot walking. I didn't mind it, though. It was actually nice. I wouldn't like that today or not doing it every day now, especially in the cold but when I was younger I didn't mind it. Thanks for visiting and here's hoping you have a fabulous week, my friend!

  14. An opossum conspiracy sounds like a kids' book in the making. ^_^ And I remember thinking my college-to-be had a lot of awesome stuff on campus when I went there for the first time - I can only imagine what it's like now!

This week I'm celebrating reading a really damn good book. I'll probably blog about it unless it fails to live up to its promise.

  15. I have an essay weakness so I wouldn't mind some proofreading assistance. Possum conspiracy indeed. They realized your farm was skipped and are sending out agents to check for weaknesses. Little did they know of the strength of Tonja and her farming family army.....
