Celebrate the Small Things into the New Year!

This weekly blog hop is sponsored by the amazing Lexa Cain, and co-hosted by L.G. Keltner from Writing Off the Edge and myself.

What exactly are we celebrating?

Every week, wonderful things happen, tiny things, which make us smile. But as time grabs us up, we forget all about these moments as if they never existed at all. This is the chance for us to reflect back on those and remember that there are tons of things worth celebrating.

This week, I'm celebrating. . .

First, Happy New Year! It's already almost been an entire week, but it takes me forever to realize that it's now 2017 instead of 2016. Usually, I keep writing the wrong number until at least the end of March.

1) Snow! It's not much. Almost an inch, but that's more than enough to have schools close down for two days here. I always have to laugh a little. Growing up in Denver, an inch was nothing. I remember us having school when it was even 6 inches or more. But here it's a rarity, so no one really knows how to handle it.  But the kids are happy...and who can blame them? Christmas break just got extended!

2) A calf! Of course, the sudden drop in temperatures kicked off the birth of one of our cows. It was a first time heifer (translated: a young cow who hadn't birthed before), and that can cause problems. So I was a bit nervous. But all went well and natural. I love to watch the calves jump and play around. So cute!

3) IWSG! Not only did I remember it this month, but it's always nice to hop around and say hi to everyone. Congrats to all anthology winners too!

And that wraps up this week pretty well.

What about you? What put a smile on your face this last week? Are you bundling up from the sudden snow too or surfing on the waves? Have a nice slide into the New Year? What are you celebrating this week?

  1. Tonja, watching the birth of a calf must be kinda wonderful! But, in the cold of the night? I'd rather stay under the covers. :) I wouldn't make a very good farmer, would I? We got a light dusting of snow last night with the promise of more but I doubt that it'll amount to anything. We sure do have the cold temps, though. Whose ready for spring? :) BTW, you'll now find my CTST contributions now on Thursdays, here, and of course, if you want to some more laughs you can check out Friday Sillies. Have a blessed, happy new year, my friend!

  2. Hoping we see snow this weekend. I grew up in several places that would get a lot of snow, so living in a place that panics at just the threat of ice or snow is rather amusing.

  3. No snow in the tropics but if any did come we'd definitely be home. Or out on the streets being nosy. Either way. Happy New Year Tonja and congrats on the new calf. IWSG is a lot of fun and I enjoyed co-hosting this month.

  5. Yep, I'm snowed in from work. Should get a lot of reading and editing done today. :) I'm not sure we have much here, but it's enough to shut 98% of the town down.

Wait, cows can walk immediately after birth?! Hello, why can't our babies do that? Lol!

  6. I grew up in the south so I know how they (don't) handle snow. It is quite amusing now that I'm in upstate NY where everyone has snow tires and snow plows. But the grass is visible right now! So wrong. Where's my blizzard people? Where?

Congrats on the new baby cow!

  7. I'll eventually get used to writing 2017 instead of 2016. Eventually.

We mostly have ice on the ground at my house. I'd much rather have the snow. Going outside is a bit dangerous right now, especially since I'm clumsy under the best of circumstances.

    Have a great weekend!

  8. Yea for the snow and the calf. I leave Miami in December just so I can see the white stuff.

  10. It's the same here, if we get even a little bit of snow the whole country comes to a standstill. It's a bit pathetic, especially when you see how much snow other countries get and they just carry on as normal!
Glad the birth of the calf went alright. Have a great weekend :)

  11. Yay for snow and cows! And perhaps snow cows. Though I think they'd have thick fur or something. ^_^

This week, I'm celebrating not only getting work done on my book's query and synopsis, on Friday, I finished the first draft of the plot for the book's sequel. It feels like a lot of progress and I hope it turns out to all be worth doing.

  12. I love snow, too, and used to adore school snow day breaks. I was always glued to the radio well before I had to get up, praying for the "school closed" announcement. Yay for the new calf! Baby animals are adorable!
