Celebrating the Small Things

After totally sleeping through IWSG this month (that one tiptoed right past me - Ugh!), I'm waking up.

The lovely Lexa Cain sponsors this weekly hop with the sole purpose of putting a smile on our faces. It's the small things in life which really make the difference, and we shouldn't forget that.
Thanks also to her two, hard-working co-hosts!

This week, I'm celebrating. . .

1) I was selected to receive Middle Shelf Magazine's Best of the Blogs Award for 2015 for my book review blog Bookworm for Kids! (For those of you who don't know about Middle Grade Shelf, it's an online magazine which concentrates on literature for Middle Graders...and a pretty well read one at that.) *squeel*  Oh, and here's my award button (spiffy, huh?)

2) My son and daughter went to a FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America) competition this last week and did well. My daughter got 2nd in the Sales Presentations (boot cuffs with built-in pockets for cell, credit cards or whatever - she made them herself). And my son got 9th from over 100 participants in Computer Problem Solving. Considering neither of them really wanted to be there (the teacher convinced them to join at the beginning of the year), I was really happy for them.

3) A trip to the mall with my daughter! Yep, we drove to the big city and spent the day shopping, drinking lattes and simply messing around. I love mother/daughter days.

Oh, and a good writer buddy of mine, Clara Stone, is bringing out her new book (YAY!!!) Today's the cover reveal for FLIRTING WITH LOVE (obviously YA Romance), so if you like pretty covers, go and take a look here.

And what about you? What wonderful things are you celebrating this week? Did someone unexpected call? Did a bird land on your window sill? Did you go somewhere and have a great time? What put a smile on your face?

  3. Congratulations on your award!

And how wonderful that your children did so well at a FBLA competition!

I'm not sure how that compares to my 14 year old daughter participating in a Model UN simulation (a zombie apocalypse) this week. Um, she was executed for attempted treason. Yeah. The funny thing is, I'm not really surprised ...

I love mother-daughter days with both my daughters together and with each individually. :)

  5. Marilyn - My pocket book probably isn't as happy about it as I ;)

Dixie - I was totally over-whelmed by the award. I used to enjoy them with my mom too... she always made me treat her to eggrolls and coffee.

Dianne - My son would die to be in a simulation like that! Lol! I think treason might be a teenage girl thing or at least I get that feeling sometimes ;)

Tyrean - Going with both sounds like fun!

  13. Congratulations on your award--and your children's! Boot pockets . . . why did no one think of those before?

In the Jewish tradition, it's considered good luck if a bird, well . . . let's just say the answer is not "lands on your windowsill." It's more about something of theirs landing on YOU. Don't ask me why that's good luck. It hasn't happened to me recently, so good luck or no, that's what I'm celebrating! :-D

You can see my standards for celebration are fairly low. :-P

But mazel tov to all of you again--I am so proud!!

  15. Congratulations on the award. And also big congratulations to your kids. Getting so good places when they didn't want to be there in the first place is saying a lot. Be proud mama. :)

  17. I'm celebrating the two days of above freezing weather we had this weekend. Didn't make much of a dent in the snow, but it felt good.

  19. Congratulations on these happy events. I'm celebrating the fact that my middle grade mystery, Imogene and the Case of the Missing Pearls, involving Sherlock Holmes is going to be published this June by MX Publishing. It's a real thrill for me (and for my writing group who critiqued many versions.)
