IWSG - Write

April is a BUSY month-- Spring, the A-Z Challenge. . .
But we can't forget this awesome, monthly writers group. Why? Because nowhere else can writers share their hopes/concerns and encourage each other with such enthusiasm as we do here!

For those who may not know what IWSG is, head on over to the ninja leader of this wonderful group, Alex J. Cavanaugh, and find out all about the wonderfulness involved. Thanks, Alex!

Special thanks also goes to his helpers this month....heaven knows, they are busy beavers indeed!

Megan Morgan, Chris Votey, Viola Fury, Christine Rains, Madeline Mora-Summonte, L.G. Keltner, Rachna Chhabria, and Patricia Lynne

I have one word for this month. . .

WRITE!

and

WRITE!

and

WRITE!!!

Was that clear enough?

This is what I have been telling myself over and over again the last weeks. Because in order to have a manuscript. . .yes, that magical collection of words we dream will be published into a bestseller someday. . .we actually have to write it first.

No way around it. I've wished for a magical wand and even asked Santa Claus to have his elves make one for me at Christmas, but it never arrived.

Imagine that.

And how do I get myself to write? Ummmm....uuuhhhhhh....

Well, except for sitting down in the chair, staring blankly at the computer screen (which doesn't count as writing no matter how much I want it to), wishing the words would come.......

Honestly, an awesome writer friend and I have started word sprinting pretty much every single day. Sounds like a lot. I know. But it's worked wonders.

(*cough* If you want to join in, we announce it on twitter under #amwriting every evening and take along whoever joins in. Usually somewhere around 8 - 10pm EST)

But the main word still is 'write'.
Write.
Write.
Write.

And why is something so simple still so hard?

  1. If the word sprints work, keep at it.
Still wish my clones would earn their keep and write for me...

    1. So clones don't work either. Darn. Strike that one from the list.

  2. I'm always asking myself that same question. Usually if I just sit myself down and start typing, the words start to flow. It's just a matter of starting!

    1. Yep, starting and when it gets a little rough, not getting distracted.

  3. Let's do this thing! I'm writing 2K a day, or trying. My editor wanted a total rewrite of this book that's coming out in the fall so the heat is on! We can do this, eh?

  4. It always seems to come down to the same thing. We need other writers to hold us accountable. That's what keeps me writing sometimes, knowing that my next crit group meeting is looming. Oh,, that reminds me, I have to turn in something by tomorrow evening to my group. Darn.

  5. I haven't gotten my magic wand either. >.<

  6. I'm having this same problem so maybe I will join in the word sprints! Sounds like fun and I really need some kind of kick in the behind.

  7. I've been really struggling to write for some time now. Perhaps it's my lack of a magic wand? Glad you have found word sprint challenges so motivating.

  8. I like your word sprint idea. If I wrote in the morning, instead of at night, I'd sure join. When I'm drafting, I like to set word count goals on ywriter to keep me going.

  9. Pretty caught up in writing with the A-Z going on and writing on the fly, so no problem with motivation. Thanks for visiting my a-z posts. All the best!

  10. I think you hit the nail on the head with "Why is something so simple still so hard?"

    Hmmm . . . I wonder who your "awesome writer friend" is . . . ;0) #ALittleBirdToldMe

  11. I wish sitting and staring at a blank screen made the writing just happen. I'd have churned out multiple novel series by now if that were the case!

  13. At different points of my life, I found it hard to start, go through with it, and finish. Now I'm butt in chair. I usually write in spurts in between errands and housework.
