Celebrate the Small Things

This weekly blog hop is sponsored by the amazing Lexa Cain, and co-hosted by L.G. Keltner from Writing Off the Edge and myself.

What exactly are we celebrating?

Every week, wonderful things happen, tiny things, which make us smile. But as time grabs us up, we forget all about these moments as if they never existed at all. This is the chance for us to reflect back on those and remember that there are tons of things worth celebrating.

This week, I'm celebrating. . .

Rain again! We had a lot of it last weekend. 15 inches in 24 hours and a grand total of around 20 some inches in 2 1/2 days. Flooding? You bet! But lucky for us, we only caught the edge of the storm. We're keeping the folks just a couple miles south of us in our prayers. It seems that every road on the southern side of our area is no longer passable thanks to knocked out bridges and streets under water (Still 5 days later)

We did loose a fence line or two, and I get to spend the weekend hauling the debris out of the field (it went under). We even were stuck in our house for 2-3 days since our poor dirt road didn't handle the rain well. Actually, the kids loved the stranded idea, especially since it meant a day off of school.

But no damage otherwise! Just a very wet pony and some soggy barn cats. (The cattle could care less. . .the stand in the middle of the pasture and eat grass no matter how harsh it rains.)

Next week, I'll be celebrating mowing grass and high weeds because I'm betting we're going to have a lot of that now.

What about you? What are you celebrating this last week? Get some of that rain? Build an arc? Plant some flowers? Dust off that book shelf?

What put a smile on your face?

  1. We are getting a lot of rain this week, and there are problems on the Lake Shores of Ontario because of the high lake level. Not too much problems around my house other than soggy bird seed for the squirrels. I even got my lawn mowed on Wednesday during a break, so I'm slightly ahead of the dandelions for another couple of days.

  2. Glad you weren't hit by the floods. Our area certainly knows how that feels after last October.

  3. Rain is headed here for the weekend. I should hurry and mow my lawn, but I'll blog a little first ;)

  4. Wow. It's been raining constantly here, on for a couple of hours, off for a few, but only the swamps are rising so far, which is actually really pretty. To be strong like a cow, eh? I love that image of them just munching away in the rainstorm.

  5. It hasn't actually rained here for a few days (which must be some kind of record). Glad you missed the worst of it!

  6. Sorry to hear about the inundation and I hope the town recovers from being underwater soon. Yes, any reason to be out of school is exciting to young ones! Weird about the cows. Maybe they consider it a free bath! Have a great weekend!

  7. Glad you're safe and didn't float away. Too bad about the fence. The news has been awful :(

  8. So pleased you "weathered" the rain and that it wasn't too much of a problem for the animals. I can imagine how the kids liked being stranded :) Luckily, for us here in the UK it hasn't been bad weather at all - although it did snow out of the blue the other day!!! Thanks for hosting the Celebrate blog hop - it is always a pleasure to take part :)

  9. Tonja,

We got plenty of rain and cooler temperatures over the weekend but no where near what y'all got. Yesterday the sun came out which I was happy to see and today we're expecting more of the same. I don't like heavy rain because it reminds me of the 1977 in southern WV that turned into a flash flood leaving much of the county devastated. It was scary but my family fortunately was spared a lot of property damage. We were without power for at least week or longer. Road and homes torn up, mobile homes swept down the creek like litter coming to rest against bridges. We live in a part of town where our house sits on a hill and there aren't any rivers or creeks nearby so we don't have the immediate concern as some of the lower lying homes do when we get a hard downpour but still I don't care for these heavy rains. Here's to the yard clean up. I know we need to mow but it's been so hard with DH recouping from eye surgery but we hope to get this job done this coming weekend. Have a good week and thanks for visiting!

  10. We had a few pretty wet days where I live. Fortunately, nothing too bad, and the weather has been gorgeous the last couple of days. Hope the cleanup has been going well.

  11. Glad you survived the rain. It's been cool and rainy here in Michigan for the last week, but that's been a good thing. I've been moving perennials around in my garden and I don't have to water them everyday.
