Celebrate the Small Things

Welcome to this weekly blog hop sponsored by the amazing Lexa Cain, and co-hosted by L.G. Keltner from Writing Off the Edge and myself.

What exactly are we celebrating?

Every week, wonderful things happen, tiny things, which make us smile. But as time grabs us up, we forget all about these moments as if they never existed at all. This is the chance for us to reflect back on those and remember that there are tons of things worth celebrating.

This week, I'm celebrating. . .

1) Eating lunch with my two little ones! Teacher conferences are here, which means early out yesterday and today free from school. So I picked up the kids yesterday and took them out for lunch. And we had fun.

2) Finished brush hogging my upper field! All those weeds are cut- yay! So now, it's back to wood splitting and hauling- does that also qualify for a yay?

3) Cool breezes through my window! Cooler temperatures seem to have finally settled in. Last night it got down to the mid 30's. So wonderful!

And what about you? What put a smile on your face this last week? See one last butterfly? Drink some warm apple cider? Find a fluffy scarf for the winter? What are you celebrating?

  1. Sounds like you had a great week. Living in southern Florida, I can't even begin to imagine needing a fluffy scarf or sipping on hot cider :-)

    2. Tonya, I have had the central heating switched on for the past couple of weeks.

You have been very energetic this week! The best I managed was a quick circuit of the park with my Nordic Walking poles.

I look back nostalgically on the days when I could take my kids out for lunch. How nice it would be to do the parenting thing again.

  3. I'm not sure that qualifies as a yay...
We're finally seeing cooler temperatures here.

    1. The air conditioners definitely have earned their winter's sleep.

  4. Fun!

    I'm with Ellen - I don't think I even own a fluffy scarf. :)

    1. I'd say you're missing out, but I'm betting a fluffy scarf is one of the last things you'd want to wear ;)

  5. We are getting drenched and it's the second of three days of rain. With the long, dry summer behind us, I'm not complaining (too much), but my outdoor cat was quite huffed to be forced to use the litter box this morning. Poor guy.

  6. Aww, lunch with your kiddos sounds like fun. We are finally getting cooler temps here and I'm so happy. My favorite kind of weather. :)

  7. Had a great time last night on Twitter with #K8Chat. We discussed SFCs (Strong Female Characters) and the different ways females can display strength and the stereotypes that didn't help. Being strong doesn't mean being bitter or mean is a must. Glad you had a nice time with the kids and going through the steps of taking care of that farm. We are having cooler weather in Jamaica now too. It comes with both advantages (cool air, yes!) and disadvantages (more rain since we're still in storm season - thankfully no bad storm has hit us. Praise the Lord). Enjoy your weekend Tonja!

  8. Yay for cooler weather & fun lunches!! Brush hogging! I always called it bush hogging growing up. ^_^ Farm life is so busy!

  9. It got HOT here last week. I was trying to clear the dead foliage out of my herb garden (is that any relation to "brush hogging?") and I was sweating buckets. Unbelievable for mid-October.

  10. Our weather is no where near hot! But I am going to Spain soon, so I hope for a little change in that for a week. :)

    Have a great weekend,

  11. Brush hogging . . . why am I imagining you grooming a pig? That's what that phrase sounds like to me.

AND WHY ARE YOU CELEBRATING COOLER TEMPERATURES IT SHOULD ALWAYS BE SUMMER. *cries* ;-)

  13. Go get 'em, pioneer lady! You're awesome and should be so proud of all the work you do to keep the farm up. Yay for family lunch and for cooler temps. I love fall and winter too!

  14. I expect you've been very busy on your farm with Harvest time just about over now - although I've still got raspberries growing here in England that need picking. The youngsters were out harvesting blackberries for apple and blackberry crumble and sloes for sloe gin making yesterday so there's quite a lot to be harvested from the hedgerow too!! 15. Sounds like a fun and satisfying week, Tonja!

  16. I remember parent-teacher conferences, mostly because those were the times we got minimum days and got to go home early. ^_^ Good times. And I'm glad that it's cooling off too.

As for what to celebrate, I think the only thing I can celebrate about this week is that I survived it. >_<
