IWSG

Welcome to the 1st IWSG this year! For those of you who might not know what this is, it is an amazing group of writers (and the brainchild of Alex J. Cavanaugh), who support each other, offer encouragement and simply meet to share thoughts and experiences. We post the first Wednesday of each month. If you'd like to learn more or join in, head on over here.

Special thanks goes to this month's co-hosts: Tyrean Martinson, Ellen @ The Cynical Sailor, Megan Morgan, Jennifer Lane, and Rachna Chhabria!

This month's question slides right down that New Year thought process. So I'll launch into that this month. (Plus, my brain is still recovering from all of that eggnog).

What steps have you taken or plan to take to put a schedule in place for your writing and publishing?

None! I'm not at the point where I need to schedule writing things unless I really want to. Which I don't. I'm still a free-floater and loving it. Of course, there are those writing goals filing into a snug list in my head, and I expect there will be writing deadlines as the months start sliding by, but I'll take those in stride.

I love taking life in stride.

What about you? Already scheduling away or are you going with the flow?

  1. I am less but more structure this year in terms of my goals. I think the purchase of Scrivener helped me streamline the steps. Now all I am doing is setting an end date for my first draft and am also setting the alarm to get up super early. Good luck on all your future writing goals and dreams :)

  2. Enjoy the time when you don't need a schedule.

  3. Yeh for taking things in stride! I wish I could do that more, but I need at least some structure or nothing would get done around here. :)

  4. Yum, eggnog :-)

I've got a really high-level plan for the coming year, but I probably need to put more detailed structure and plans underneath it to succeed.

    Happy New Year!

  5. I'm in between- I have a pretty solid discipline and because of that I can be flexible. Sounds contrary but really it isn't - in the same way kids can play with abandon in a fenced yard, I can write with abandon as long as I put my time in.

  6. I've been free floating for years and don't seem to mind it. It's probably why I'm not published. What I am doing is too much fun already.

  7. I set goals for the month, but don't plan too much. Life has thrown enough wrenches at me to where I don't like to set hard deadlines that will get scrapped when crap hits the fan.

  8. It's probably not a surprise that I like schedules. LOL! Of course, I also like days of free-floating. I'm trying to find a balance between having a deadline and free-floating. I want to get stuff done in a reasonable time frame, but I also don't want to lose my mind, if I can help it. :P
