Let's dive into a Celebration of the Small Things

It's time for another edition of. . .

CELEBRATE THE SMALL THINGS!

This is a weekly blog hop sponsored by the amazing Lexa Cain, and co-hosted by L.G. Keltner from Writing Off the Edge and myself. Every week, wonderful things happen, tiny things, which make us smile. But as time grabs us up, we forget all about those moments. This is the chance for us to reflect back on those and remember that there are tons of things worth celebrating.

This week, I'm celebrating. . .

1) A peek into an antique/artist's shop! Deciding to take some time for myself, I stopped by a cute shop on the edge of town. I wasn't planning on buying anything but found two things (Isn't that always how it goes?). The first is a 4 -piece tea set with cups shaped like pink tulips and matching snack plates--I have a 'three little kittens who lost their mittens' tea set I picked up years ago to make the kids' birthdays and such a little more special, but the didn't include any sort of cups, saucers or plates. These don't match perfectly but they'll do and are horribly sweet.

An awesome deal on a reciprocating saw! I'm in charge of firewood (you'll see a picture of my mighty stack in a couple of weeks), and have a HUGE pile of branches that need to be cut up...all about as thick as my arm. But to cut them with a chain saw...well, honestly...it gets too heavy. And I'm NOT cutting them all by hand since the pile is seriously as big as my kitchen (like my sometimes crazy husband suggested). Anyway, this saw is my answer to not-quite-as-sore arms.

I hope.

2) Unexpected surprises! This week has been full of unexpected events and changes. Some were good. Some weren't. But it definitely kept me on my toes, and I can honestly say that this was not a week where anything went as planned.

So yay to spontaneous events! Even when not so great, they keep life interesting!

What about you? What put a smile on your face this last week? Did you try a hoola-hoop? Pet a cute dog or cat? Get a sip of a delicious coffee?

What are you celebrating this week?

  1. I am going to have to try my new reciprocating saw on cutting some branches! Never thought of doing it that way, but since I don't have a chainsaw that might be an idea.

    1. Lol! You got one too??? I was looking for anyway to better handle the mess, and my brothers suggested using it. They say it's what works best for them. Make sure it's a jagged blade and watch the pinching. Oh, and don't cut it with the end of the blade (branch has to be in the middle) or it bends easily. Those were their words of wisdom ;)

  2. An artist's shop!! I bought a little tea set this week. ^_^ Those cups sound adorable!

A reciprocating saw? Had to look that up. Lol! Seen 'em, didn't know what they were called. :) Have fun with that! I'm sure you will. :P

I'm celebrating picking up my first battle axe!! I even got a deal on it since the display was the last one they had. $10 off!! ^_^

  3. Artist's shop sounds so interesting. A place you could get lost for a bit. We're just trying to finish a shed and get our things our of storage. Finally. I'll certainly celebrate if we can do that this weekend.

  4. What a lovely-sounding tea set! Shops like that are fun to poke through. Hope that saw works well for you, and I hope that any more unexpected surprises you get are good ones!

  5. A tea set and a saw? Now those are two items that together would be intriguing in a story. :)

  6. Damn, lumber woman! You go with your new saw and your bad self. I'm sorry things didn't go as planned this week. I hope this coming week finds you feeling a little more in control (I'm sure that kick-a$$ saw will help). Since you asked, this week, I'm celebrating going on a picnic with my best friend and her kids, as well as . . . *drum roll* GETTING A BOOKBUB AD! It's for my boxset of THE MAGE TALES, and will be live on Sunday. It'll be 99c (down from $6.99) from tomorrow until Thursday (deal ends midnight on Weds). Feel free to spread the word to your readers if you want!

  8. We were at an amusement park yesterday and there wasn't a crowd. No waiting! Favorite ride: Sea dragon. That's the ship which swings back and forth. Sitting at the back row is the closest thing I've come to flying. So fun.

  9. There are few places more tempting than antique shops or places with "gently used" things. One of my favorite places in my hometown was a used paperback bookstore. Congrats on the purchases, getting a hand on your reciprocating saw (+1 for my pun, -1 for my total ignorance of what a reciprocating saw is.) Changes always come, whether you want them to or not, so your attitude is best. Have a great weekend!

  10. I saw my best friend on Thursday--we had dinner and ended up writing lyrics on a napkin for a fake musical we decided to write. Neither of us are musical in the least, but it got the creative juices flowing :-)

  12. I've never been in an antiques shop before. I'm curious to see what they have.

  13. I have sooo many coffee cups and snack plates ... they're one of my guilty pleasures. Whenever I walk past a garage sale in my neighborhood, that's what I look for, so I get the whole tea cup and plates thing. I purposely stay away from antique shops or places like Pier1 - I'd break the bank in those stores.

  14. That shop sounds so cool! Hope you've had a restful weekend after all the changes of the week.

  15. There's something really funny about buying a tea set and a reciprocating saw at the same shop. ^_^ The main thing I'm happy for this week is that I'm getting all my stuff together for my vacations in September. I'm going to be gone for about half the month on two different trips, so there's a lot to keep track of, but I've got a handle on it.

  16. I love exploring antique stores too... it's like a treasure hunt, never knowing what I'll discover:) I had a relaxing weekend and got some gardening done... :)

  17. You bought a dainty tea set and a reciprocating saw. I was going to say that's a unique combination, but then I thought any antique/artisan's shop has probably seen many, many unusual purchase combinations.

  18. Tonja, I can use a bow saw for cutting branches and small trees ok. It's definitely tiring, but I don't trust myself to use anything that remotely powerful and heavy. I'm glad we don't need fire wood and if we do need it someday then I hope I can buy it or hire to have it cut. lol I like visiting antique shops. You can find some darling things in them. :)
