What's Up Wednesday

The lovely Jaime Morrow and Erin L. Funk sponsor this weekly meme in order for us writerly types to help keep in touch with one another. If you'd like to join in on the fun, go ahead and head on over to their blogs. There's a linky, cute buttons and hopefully, fun. . .fun. . .fun!

What have I been up to?

What I'm Reading:

I finished up One, Two, Three by Elodie Nowodazkij. It's a very emotional novel: heart-warming, tear-jerking, and saddening all at the same time. I caught myself sighing a few times (which is a good thing!)

I read half-way through Crossed by Ally Condie, the 2nd book in the Matched series, but laid it aside. It was fine in the beginning but drew out too long the more and more I got into it. . .Heroine almost gets to guy. He continues before she reaches him. They're lost, not finding each other. I don't know. Maybe it's my mood, but I found it boring.

What I'm Writing:

This week, not much. But that was to be expected. I have to have my author bio in by the end of this week. Why are these little things worse than an entire novel?

What's Inspiring Me:

New beginnings. . .or ones unfolding. Now, with the kids starting school, I'll have the entire day for myself. I can write. . .write. . . write! The thought alone is making me giddy. Watch out stories - I'm going to get you all down now!!!

What Else I've Been Up To:

Well, we bought a baler Friday. It's a fixer-upper and was SUPER cheap. My hubs has been tinkering on it already and is totally excited. Looks like it's going to be even easier to get running than we thought.

Nothing new. All 1950's and 60's here! Love it!

We were 'floating' on Saturday, and I now understand why it's called that. Although hubs and I opted for a canoe, the kids all took tubes. Know what? Tubes don't move! Hubs and I ended up poking the younger kids with our paddles to get them over the quiet spots. And it ended up being a little stressful because we had to be three miles down the river by a certain time or risk missing our ride. But how does one know how long 3 miles are??? We made it, but without the prodding, we wouldn't have had a chance. (Nope, no pictures. Everyone was afraid to get their devices wet)

It was fun!

Yesterday, I took my daughter and her German friend shopping in the big city of Springfield. . .to a mall. *gasp* Yeah, that's big stuff now. We had fun. My older son bought bacon and cheddar flavored crickets. Yes, crickets. Expensive little buggers too.

And today? Today, (since my daughter had to go to school) her friend and I are heading to Laura Ingalls Wilder's house. Can't wait for this one. Ugh! And my camera's broke!

What about you? What have you been up to?

  1. Two weeks until my kids go back to school--I can't even imagine what it will be like to write more than a sentence without an interruption. Bittersweet, I suppose. It sounds like you had a wonderful week. Hope your next one is the same.

  2. I heard a similar report concerning the Matched series--but I guess I should try them for myself sometime and see what I think. I am headed back into another year of college, so instead of gearing up for having a lot more writing time, I am preparing myself for having a lot less writing time very soon... It's a good thing I like my classes. ;)

  3. I heard the same thing about the sequel to Matched. It kind of put me off reading the first one. Congratulations on your "vintage" baler!

I finally got back to writing, which is a relief. I'm still on pins and needles waiting for and editorial letter for the last book I turned in. I wish it would hurry up and come so I'd know what my editor thought of it. I'm dying to get back to work on. After 3 books, those characters are dear, dear friends.

The people in my WIP are strangers.

  4. Ooh, have a good time today! That sounds like a lot of fun. And I am giddy for you about having all that writing time! It's just such a magical thought, =D

Good luck with the author bio ^_^

  7. Pass on the crickets.
    I like your old tractor.
Sorry the book was drawn out and boring.

  8. I put Crossed aside too. Actually, I cheated and went online to find out what happened in the book so I could just skip to book three. Is that sad? I did skim to the end...ish. =)

  9. Author bio! ^_^
Yay for free time! I can't wait to hear about it.
You know, I would be afraid of falling into the water if I floated in a tube. I'd definitely be a canoe. Have you tried one of the crickets? I would try one. Lol!

    Nice tractor. :)

  10. Very cool baler! I think you should drive *that* to the mall. The looks alone would be worth it. And Laura Ingalls Wilder's house?!! How cool is that? I grew up on those stories, I would love to see it.

    Have an amazing week!

  11. Yes. Bios and synopses and outlines. They are all the work of the devil.

LOL. With those kids of yours in school, your new projects better watch out. You're gonna kick some serious wordcount ASS.

Um, I think crickets are expensive to discourage sane people from buying them.

LAURA INGALLS WILDER'S HOUSE?? For the love of baloney, have your friend take pictures and get copies!!

And I did try to warn you about the tubing. ;-)

  12. I'm glad you had fun. I sweat over the little things like queries, bios, and other things sent to agents and publishers. I only read the first book in that series.

  13. Haha, writing author bios can be trickier than writing a book! :P

    Enjoy your writing time! ^^

  14. I actually gave up after reading Matched, I didn't even get to Crossed. It just didn't grab me. Glad to know I'm not missing out!
