Celebrate the Small Things

This weekly blog hop is sponsored by the amazing Lexa Cain, and co-hosted by L.G. Keltner from Writing Off the Edge and myself.

What exactly are we celebrating?

Every week, wonderful things happen, tiny things, which make us smile. But as time grabs us up, we forget all about these moments as if they never existed at all. This is the chance for us to reflect back on those and remember that there are tons of things worth celebrating.

This week, I'm celebrating. . .

1) Surviving the week! It's been one of those weeks where the words 'nothing else can happen' weren't allowed to be uttered. But it's over and yesterday, nothing negative happened. So yay for that!

2) Slushies and shakes! Yesterday, the kids and I headed out to the hay barn, got all of those aluminum cans together (we pick the up off of the dirt road leading to our house. People are messy!) and took them to the recycling center. Sure enough, we had enough change to buy everyone a slushie or shake. It didn't hurt that Sonic had a half-price day.

3) My oldest daughter survived the Greyhound bus! She and friends decided to visit one of their mothers and wanted to try the Greyhound. I warned her that it's not exactly the same experience as transportation in Europe. It wasn't a smooth trip, and after a couple bus no-shows they ended up getting back a day late. She has stories to tell (many very interesting indeed!) and has decided never ever ever to ride with the Greyhound again.

What about you? What put a smile on your face? Lick an ice cream cone? Bathe in the sun? Go hopping through wildflowers or receive a friendly wave from a stranger along the street?

What are you celebrating?

  1. You get paid to recycle? Lucky.
Glad your life is on the upswing now.
My best friend took Greyhound once to visit me. He has a lot of horrifying stories to tell as well.

  2. Sounds like a good recycling scheme . . . Yay for yummy shakes! I know what it is like to experience 'one of those weeks' hope things are better now. Happy weekend.

  4. Definitely an interesting week! I remember when I graduated high school (age 17) in NH, I took the Trailways (a Greyhound competitor back in the 60's) from Portsmouth, NH to Vero Beach, FL. It was a 2-3 day trip (don't remember exactly) but what an experience for a small town girl!

  5. Yay for an end to "interesting times," and I think it's great that you all got money back on your cans -- kept things clean and got nice desserts to boot! Greyhound buses could be better, but tell her never to get on those small airplanes they fly between little cities -- the ones with 10-20 seats. They're terrifying in the smallest bit of turbulence. Have a good weekend!

  6. I feel like celebrating after reading your post. I have a glass of wine here, and I'm watching The Voice, so yee-haa. The celebration is on!

  7. Greyhound used to be reliable transportation. Too bad. We are all so dependent on our cars now. Those slushies and shakes remind me that summer is just around the corner. Won't that be nice?

  8. P.S. Also wanted to add I'm ready to do a Cover Reveal and you mentioned doing a "shout out." Could you please email me?

  9. What a great lesson about the Bus. I love your philosophy this week. I have had a few lovely conversations with friends over the last couple of days that made me smile :)

  10. I've never ridden a Greyhound, but I've heard horror stories. Maybe as a writer I should make the journey once to find some inspiration.

  11. Sad commentary on our bus system. In England. Germany or France, it's so simple. Of course, their undergrounds are amazing, so I seldom take above ground transport when I'm one of those countries.

  12. Glad your daughter made it back from her bus adventure--not a mode of travel that I'd want to try unless I had no other choice.
