A very simple IWSG

Happy March! Wow, didn't that one come quick this year?
With a brand new month comes the awesome IWSG!!! For those of you who don't know, this is a writer's support group. A HUGE one with all sorts of possibilities. And this is the monthly post, where us writers get together and share our woes or offer encouragement to those who need it.
Want to know more? Then head on over to the super Alex J. Cavanaugh, the guy who started this whole thing and join in.

Special thanks also goes to this month's co-hosts:  Tamara Narayan, Patsy Collins, M.J. Fifield, and Nicohle Christopherson!

This month. . .

I'm simply typing away. Without work, there's no gain.

Isn't that an easy sum up?

As to this month's question:

Have you ever pulled out a really old story and reworked it? Did it work out?

I've pulled out an old story before, but it wasn't 'really' old. It's more of a story that I'd like to get published someday but realize that it still needs work. It's gone through many edits. Gone through querying years ago and got full requests but ended there.

My gut's telling me that it's still missing something, and I've noticed that the gut is often right. Since I'm in no hurry (this isn't a race), I'm letting this particular MS steam and will wait for the right ideas to hit.

It's not like there aren't other. . .tons. . .mountains worth of stories waiting in line.

What about you? Ready to tear up a MS, jump on it and set it on fire? Doing a happy dance about a good story? Wondering if this whole writing thing is worth the time and trouble? Or are you on the edge of your seat, no longer able to take the suspense?
How's the writing world treating you?

  1. I'm typing away too and trying to keep at it. It's been ages since I've just written without getting distracted by everything under the sun. Happy typing to you!

  2. I think waiting is often the hardest and wisest thing to do. Ah discipline... Way to go--giving it the time to percolate. I'm sure the answers will come to you.

The writing world is treating me great! Actually, if I could find more time to get to it, I'd be in heaven--know what I mean? As it is, I'm lucky to squeak in an hour a day. So frustrating. What can you do? Such is life.

I'm plugging along, writing away. :)

  4. I agree, waiting is tough but at the same time, if you aren't feeling it then pushing it may steer it in a wrong direction. I haven't pulled out any old stories for a similar reason. Passion. I am not feeling it either.

  5. A world of good has been done to stories given time to steam. ^_^ There is nothing really old I want to rework, but I have one project from 2013 and one project from 2014 that I would like to figure out how to rework one day.

  6. Julie - *sigh* distractions. Go get those words!

Crystal - You are one busy person. But enjoy the time :)

Madeline - Here's wishing you many words!

Erika - It's not worth pounding something into the ground. Maybe passion will find its way soon.

    Krystal - I'm sure they're waiting for you ;)

  7. You don't have to rush, so smart to let it simmer and take your time finding just the right fix.

  8. I'm working on a nvel I gave up on because my gut told me it wasn't working. After a bit of space I can see my gut was right - but now I can also see ways to improve it. When this has happened with short stories I've often had success, so I'm feeling optimistic enough to put in the effort.

  9. Usually I put a story away, forever, when the characters are too boring and I can't figure out how to fix them. At least we know when something is wrong even if we don't know how to fix it.

  10. Seems like I've been going back over my story and totally revamping it for years now. I should just learn to drive straight through the draft until I reach the end. Glad you have a long line of stories ready to be told.

  11. I have many stories sitting on the back burner waiting for their time to be right. I sometimes forget it's not a race....
