Celebrate the Small Things

It's time for another edition of. . .

CELEBRATE THE SMALL THINGS!

This is a weekly blog hop sponsored by the amazing Lexa Cain, and co-hosted by L.G. Keltner from Writing Off the Edge and myself. Every week, wonderful things happen, tiny things, which make us smile. But as time grabs us up, we forget all about those moments. This is the chance for us to reflect back on those and remember that there are tons of things worth celebrating.

If you'd like to join in and add a little more joy to your week, then go ahead over to Lexa's or simply pop by the linky below!

This week, I'm celebrating. . .

(I have a bit of a cold this week and my head feels like it's floating among the clouds. In other words, if something sounds a bit silly or off below, please excuse me  *coughcough*)

1) Quiet nights! After it gets dark in the evening, I grab my flashlight and head outside to close up the chicken coop (no chance for you, pesky possums!). The rest of my family finds this task irritating, but I love it and take it on freely. Outisde, it's so quiet. Peaceful. And since we don't have any city lights or anything around, the stars are always amazing. These few moments are something I treasure.

2) Awards and my son's beaming face! This time, my youngest son stood in the spotlight. He brought home a pile of certifications for being on the 'A' honor role and student of the month. Of course, after telling me how happy he was, he had to remind me that he deserves a BIG treat.

3) Roses! Okay, they aren't mine - literally speaking. But who's being picky? My daughter's boyfriend is on a roll with fresh cut flowers. Tulips last week for Valentine's. This week, it's a dozen white roses with a touch of red on the edges. Why am I celebrating? Because she puts them in a vase and leaves them on my kitchen island right where I can see them. Since she's a busy girl and never home, I'm the one who gets to gaze and smile at them all day. I wonder what he'll give her next week???? (Just kidding.)

And what about you? What put a smile on your face this last week? Get hit by that nasty storm? (Hmmm...maybe that's not something to celebrate). How about a delicious coffee or tea? A yummy cookie? Did you get something done, you didn't think you would?

What are you celebrating?

  1. Congratulations to your son!
Just enjoy the flowers. Prod your daughter to tell her boyfriend how much she likes them so he'll bring more.

  2. The starlight in the country blows my mind. I live in the city, so it's pretty dismal, but I enjoy the sky so much when I'm away from home. Congrats for smart kids and flowers! ^_^

Hope the pesky cold is on the way out!

  3. Nothing like those "quite nights," eh? ;-) Congratulations on your son's achievements and your daughter's generous boyfriend! This week I'm celebrating feeling better than I thought I would after surgery. Still, I can't wait till I'm 100%!

  4. Head colds can be tricky. Either they get worse and you feel really icky, or, they get better rather fast. I hope yours is the latter.

Hey, I think it's a good thing to share in the beauty of your daughters flowers!!! And I didn't realize you had children old enough to have a boyfriend. They grow too fast.

  6. I've had a head cold this week too, it's getting better now though, hope yours is too.
There's a lot to be said for a little peace and quiet and I can see why you enjoy your nightly visit to the chickens.

  7. I didn't know possums ate chickens! (Or maybe they just steal the eggs?) Big congrats to your son! I hope he got his treat. I don't think I got flowers from a bf until I was in my 20s. This guy may be a keeper! I hope you recover from your cold soon. Have a good weekend! :)

  10. Congratulations to your son, and I hope you feel better soon!
I'm celebrating finally getting back to full mobility! Now I just have to work on getting my stamina for exercise back to where it was pre-accident.

  11. Roses are always worth celebrating, regardless of why they're there. ^_^ I think the only thing I'd say I'm celebrating this week is progress on my various plots, which is kind of scattered but definitely moving forward. It's definitely better than how this month started, so, yay.

  12. Tonja, sorry to hear you're feeling under the weather. I suspect a lot of folks are going to get hit with something or another before winter calls it quits or as spring begins. That's a fear hanging over my head because *knock on wood* it's been years since either DH or I have gotten hit hard by allergy flare ups. I know our days are numbered. I like it when we're out after dark and although city lights are a bit of problem from our house we usually see the sky quite well on clear nights and it's always beautiful to see. Of course when we're in the mountains the starry sky stretches endlessly before our eyes and man, oh man is that ever something to soak in! Congrats to your kiddo's fine grades in school and how sweet of your daughter to share her flowers with you. I know how happy it makes me when look upon an arrangement of freshly cut colorful blooms. This makes me all the more eager for spring to get here! Have a funtastic week and thanks for the visit, my friend!
