Celebrate the Small Things

Thank heavens it's Friday! Wow, what a week it's been. But before we head off into the weekend it's time to remember all those wonderful things that happened--all those things which put a smile on the face. Today, we CELEBRATE THE SMALL THINGS!

This is a weekly blog hop sponsored by the amazing Lexa Cain, and co-hosted by L.G. Keltner from Writing Off the Edge and myself.  If you'd like to join in and add a little more joy to your week, then go ahead and sign-up on the linky below!

This week, I'm celebrating. . .

1) Getting through the week. Problems were on a roll these past days, a new one popping up every time another was solved. Everything worked out okay in the end, but it got to the point I'd cringe every time the phone would ring. So I'm celebrating the end of this week and embracing the weekend.

2) Writing in my own writing space for the first time! There's a guest room in our basement which I've been dreaming of turning into my own office, and I finally buckled down and got it done. It's not beautiful, but it's cleaned out, a type of desk/table is up and I've even brought in a few decorations to make it feel more writerly. I spent one day in there, and it was wonderful.

3) Watching my kids excitement during Homecoming week. The high school football team is one of the most treasured things in our little town, and the entire place spends the week getting psyched for the 'big' game. All grades had a list of 'dress-up' ideas to show their spirit, and they get to take part in or watch the big parade today. Of course, each class is having a party in their classrooms after the parade as well (all the way down to the kindergartners). It's hard not to get caught up in their fun.

And what about you? Dare to peek out of your window this last week? Did you enjoy a walk in the September sun? Get some writing done? What put a smile on your face this last week?

  2. When you cringe every time the phone rings, that's bad. Glad the week is over.
Cool you have your writing place now.
And I'm plowing ahead with a short story right now.

  3. Sorry the week was problematic, but glad you got a writing space of your very own! Hope the weekend is problem-free, =)

    1. Problem free doesn't exist, I think. But a chance to breathe is always good. Have a great week!

  4. Ugh. I hear you with those pop-up problems. They should make a pop-up book out of those for grown-ups! I'm glad things are better for you now.

Woot--writing space! Um, pictures please. WE NEED TO SEE THIS.

In my hometown we have a Halloween parade where all the kids march down the middle of the main street--in costume. There's music and a guy with a bullhorn and everything. I'm glad your kids had a good time.

This week I am smiling about finally finishing the last big, climactic scene in my MS. Now there's just the denouement, and I will be finished with the book--and the trilogy! *pumps fists*

    1. I got the space; now I need to make it pretty. Then come the pictures. Yep.
A bullhorn? You'll need to post a pic of that! And YAY to getting the trilogy done!!!

    1. I noticed how many people have said it's a hard week too...the sun? the moon? the weather? As long as it's in the past, all's okay!

  7. oh, that parade sounds like so much fun! Even if I am not into Football (don't shoot me), the activities around it can be cool, especially in small towns like yours - have a great weekend!

    1. The work area is a neat thing. I close the door and the rest of the world disappears - almost dangerous ;)

    1. It's so surreal to go in there, close the door and be in my own little world. See if it's inspiring as I hope.

  13. Today I'm celebrating surviving my first real day at work - I officially joined my department and got my desk today. I'm handling it all right so far, but it's still a little rough. >_<

Congrats on having your own writing space now, though. ^_^ I've had a monolithic desk from Costco for years, and it feels like it's its own space even within my apartment. Nothing like having a focused place to write.

    1. Congrats on getting through the first week! I'm sure you'll fall into the routine soon enough.
I've been using the dining room table as my writing space since I wrote my first words, so this is a huge change for me. So quiet and calm and wow.

  14. Inspired by you, I have begun listing cliches. Looks like an adventure in itself!

    1. So glad you're actually trying it! Lol! You'll probably end up learning more about cliches than you EVER wanted to know...a true profi by the time you're done. But I'll buy one of the first copies ;)

  15. Good for you in finding a writing space. It doesn't need to be pretty just a space of your own. I used to love getting excited with my children for Homecoming!!!

  16. I created an office space. It's great to have one. I had a pretty intense week and I'm scrambling to finish things this weekend.

  20. Yippee for your own writing space! That's epic. I want some of that. Of course, chaos would ensue if I did that...since we're home schooling...

  21. Hope this week has far less troubles for you. And yay for your own writing space! We got out and took a walk in the woods on Sunday. It was beautiful. Today I've been holed up writing something much more scarier in the woods!

  22. I heard once that when big blessings are headed your way, the devil sends a passel of negative things to try to thwart the blessing. Let's hope that's the case for you.

I want a writing spot. I use the same area as the rest of the family. Since I live with all men, it's covered in super heroes. Not that I have anything against the X-Men, but I'd prefer some Gone with the Wind.
