Time to Celebrate!

It's FRIDAY! And that doesn't only mean the weekend is around the corner. Nope. It means it's Celebrate the Small Things! The wonderful Vikki over at Viklit sponsors this weekly hop to help us remember all those little things that happened this week, which put a smile on our faces. Because no week is only bad. Never.

And since Vikki needs reasons to smile too, she has some amazing helpers, who buzz around the blog and serve refreshments...uhh... as in comments and visits.

Thanks, Vikki... and...

This week, I'm celebrating . . .

1) A new laptop!!! My son...*takes a deep breath*. . .yes, the oldest one who always tells me that writing is a waste of time and that I should get a real job. . .bought me a new laptop to better write with (mine was really really really slow). I dare anyone to figure these kids out (Thank you, Son of mine!!!!)

2) Our chickens are now laying 3 eggs instead of 2 on some days. Go chickens!

3) My youngest son has started a nature journal. His idea. I'll have to take a picture of it when he lets me. He's spending so much time putting it together. I love it.

4) The leaves are slowly beginning to turn. I hear that this is a gorgeous time of year here. Can't wait to see it really get underway.

Now, it's your turn to celebrate... and to help, you might want to head on over to the amazing, super fun, packed with YA authors (seriously, there are SO MANY involved with this)

http://yascavengerhunt.blogspot.com/

There's fun, tons and tons of authors to meet (I know some of them, and can only say - go say hi!), and lots and lots and lots of books and prizes to win. http://yascavengerhunt.blogspot.com/

So, what things have put a smile on your face this week? Get some chocolate? Have a falling leaf glide past you? See a gorgeous stack of pumpkins? What are you celebrating???

  1. Glad you got a new laptop! That was nice of him.

  2. Does your son happen to be 14 years old by any chance? Because my 14 year old -- who used to be so supportive when she was younger -- has been really negative lately. When I expressed disappointment that neither of my newly released books appeared at her eighth grade book fair last spring (although one of them had been featured the year before), she snarkily said, "You can't expect your book to be there every year, Mom."

I pointed out, "Yes, I can. Because you know, that's what I'm working for. To have books that are successful enough to be included in book fairs."

    Her response: An eye roll.

So, I think the gift of a new laptop from your nay-saying son is a sign of him growing up. (Or surpassing age 14.)

  3. Your son bought you a new laptop - that's awesome! I think that our kids get excited, embarrassed, and dismayed by our endeavors in turn . . . kind of like we do, maybe? I know my kids will sometimes wish that I wrote less, and then sometimes they'll post pictures of my book covers on instagram and facebook and urge their friends to try them . . . so I never know exactly what inspires either reaction.
That leaf journal sounds pretty awesome! :)

  4. Congratulations on your new laptop! But I had no idea your son was so unsupportive of your writing aspirations. Honestly, if I were you, I'd have had a talk with him long ago about the appropriate way to speak to his mother. Do YOU tell HIM his dreams are a "waste of time?" We teach other people how to treat us--sounds like this young man needs a lesson in manners and sensitivity. Grrr.

What do you mean, you "hear" this is a gorgeous time of year? Haven't you ever seen fall before? :-D I'll bet it's beautiful where you are--enjoy!

  5. Oh my gosh! I didn't know there was a naysayer. That's so awesome that he's coming around!! Yay, laptop! And YES, go chickens go! ^_^

Well, it's more gorgeous up north, but it gets the job done. Lol!

  8. Yay for a new laptop and the nature journal sounds wonderful! I think it's a hint from your son that writing is not THAT much of a waste of time after all. ;)

  9. Alex - He's a sweet kid.

Dianne - He's almost 18. But I know what you mean. My daughter was my biggest supporter . . .then she hit 14. She's not against my writing, but the support has definitely numbed. If your book had been at the fair, I'm betting she would have pointed it out to everyone. Secretly, of course. But you know she's proud of you.

Tyrean - I think any middle-ground reactions with kids at that age is difficult--with anything. But I think, inside, they really are proud. Always.

Ilana - Lol! Maybe I should send him to your house. Honestly, he's a good kid. As to Fall - nope, haven't been here for that season yet. I'm already missing the apple orchards though.

Krystal - We all have our naysayers - a lot of them. Help builds up that crocodile skin ;) And up North is gorgeous!!!! I love Fall up there!

Laura - He's got a hard shell but soft heart. No fooling Mom ;)

Al - I know! I know! Ugh! Now, if only my fingers were fast enough!

  12. How awesome of your son! :) I love the autumn colors too. They're really lovely this year since we had some cold weather bringing out the bright hues.

  13. Kids...just when you think you have them figured out they do something surprising! That was very sweet of him! I hope your new laptop is well behaved (technically) and brings you many new and creative ideas :)

I loved journaling as a youngster.
