IWSG

Happy Birthday, IWSG!!! Yep, for three years now, this group has been saving writers everywhere. Thanks to super-ninja, Alex J. Cavanaugh, and this month's awesome helpers:

My Baffling Brain, Mark Koopmans, Shah Wharton, and Sheena-Kay Graham

I bet this group will be around many more years to come (I hope!)

My insecurity this month is better described like this:

Me staring at the keyboard (now, full-time since all the kids are in school). . .

staring at the keyboard. . .

staring at the keyboard. . .

As you can see, this isn't only a problem for the two manuscripts - one which I'm determined to have polished and shinny around December/January - but also for my eyes.

And what about you? Feeling insecure about anything or are those words flowing right out of you? Are those edit bugs biting your butt or do you have them under control? Maybe you've gotten to one of those awesome stages where there aren't insecurities, only happy moments?

  1. Just start whacking your head on the keyboard - then the screen won't be blank anymore.
Just kidding - don't do that.
My goal is for the group to be around a very long time!

  2. I'm editing away. So far, it's a happy stage. It means this thing will be blessedly done soon!

  3. I spent most of the summer staring at the keyboard. But I got away from home last week, had a chance to relax and recharge, and surprisingly, I've been typing away this week!

None of it's any good, of course, but I'm happy to even be writing a stinky draft at this point. :)

    1. So glad to hear it's flowing again for you!!! I noticed you were getting stuck. Honestly, I'm hoping you get that draft done and edited and published because the story idea sounds amazing.

  4. Ugh, the blank screen. Definitely not a fun sight (and a really boring colour to look at all day, too!) Hope you get some great words flowing soon, =)

    1. Lol! Maybe I should put a pretty rainbow on the screen. ;)

  5. I'm feeling insecure because I just started writing a sequel to the book I'm trying to get published and I'm all kinds of nervous. >_< Grr. Arg.

    1. Yeah, we do psych ourselves out, don't we? But you'll get it. I have no doubt :)

  6. write something, anything. the first thing that comes to your head. Then keep going even when you think it's garbage. Eventually the good stuff will come out, you'll see.

  7. I'm staring at my MS trying to decide where to start with edits. Sigh. But kids are in school from today on, 2 hours a day . . . we can make it happen! Good luck! :)

  8. It's the pressure. Every time I'm on vacation, I'm all thinking that I'm going to get SO much writing done! And then I get about the same amount done as I do when I'm working. Lol! I can't perform on cue. You know what helped me this last time? Getting a change of scenery. I was cat/house sitting and when I was in my friend's house, staring at different walls, I just started writing, and it was amazing! I'm thinking this is why so many writers go to coffee shops and such. Maybe you should try writing outside by the creek? Or even just in a different room. I wrote on the stairs once. It was uncomfortable, but it got me going on the scene and then I went back to my desk.

    1. *cough* What if I say, 'yep, you hit that nail right on the head!' It's silly. When I was constantly driving after the kids in Germany (and only and 2 hours to write), I got tons done. I'm assuming that this new found 'freedom' is sending me for a mental loop. Hopefully, a pattern will fall in soon. I did escape to our waterfall a couple days ago, and a scene I was missing popped right into my head. But after that scene, I knew that's all the inspiration I would get there. I need to wander more ;) *hugs*

  9. I've been there many times and have stared at my keyboard so much that it filed a restraining order against me :)

Don't feel bad, the ideas will start flowing soon!

  10. I've been typing away, but writing a bunch of stuff that will probably get edited out later. Sometimes, I have to write bad to write good...yes that grammar was intended to make you cringe. Your brain is awake now! Go write.

  11. I know what you mean, it is so frustrating when you have the time to write but the words won't flow. The more you stress the harder it gets too. I find giving myself permission to write anything that comes into my head can stimulate my muse. Good luck and happy writing.

  12. Wow--full-time staring at the screen! You are officially professional author! :-D

Seriously, the cure for writing constipation (ew--just coined a new phrase) is chocolate. Lots and lots of chocolate. Also time (mostly for the chocolate to kick in).

YOU WILL GET THERE!! Or you will be running for the bathroom--one or the other. ;-P
